He would not come forward and would only watch what we were doing from a distance.
We spent aprox. 25 minutes in attempting to make contact with this or any other spirit but nothing was happening.
I suggested to John that we move the group and the table to another position and so we re-formed several metres from the stairs.
Again nothing much was happening, i and several others could feel the table "trembling" but this was not enough. We needed more.
I had an idea. John had [several times throughout the vigil] mentioned a monk who had been standing by the stairs and did not wish to interact with us but didn't mind that we were there.
"I think we should try some Transfiguration" i said to John.
"O.K." he said and i walked to the exact position where the monk was standing. John said you are in the right place and i turned my torch up towards my face so the group would see any changes in my appearance and closed my eyes and started to relax and concentrate. The group watched and almost immediately i became transfigured. There was an evil presence in the room and he had taken the monks position.
I wanted to remain quiet and the group began to comment on the changes to my face. It appeared that a mask was forming around my face and my body was getting taller and then was becoming smaller again, almost as if two energies were jostling for the same position.
I had been standing for 5 minutes and i started to feel angry, my stomach seemed to tighten and i was beginning to breathe heavier. I did not feel in control of what i was doing. I felt that i was becoming another person. I felt it was time to end this experiment.
I opened my eyes and walked through the group swearing at them as i put my torch down and walked back to the stairs.
Immediately i apologised for my actions and left the group for several minutes and went downstairs. When i returned i felt we were all ready for a break.
